Safety Grip (12”x2”): a one-piece metal grating combining large debossed holes with perforated buttons produced by a cold forming process. Safety Grip offers high resistance in all directions due to circular edges that grip your feet, and it is also a virtually self-cleaning grating; ice, mud and snow fall right through the large round holes. Note: other channel stock is available upon request.
Safety Tread: an anti-skid plate mounted to the surface of 4” bumpers to provide protection from slipping when entering or exiting the vehicle body. Safety Tread comes in standard sheets of 36”x120” and has a minimum of 56 x 92 perforated 3/8” diameter buttons.
Scuffliner: a 13” steel plate mounted on the wall at floor level to provide protection from damage due to pallets and freight hitting the wall.
Shoreline Power: external power supplied to a unit through a 15 amp plug. Shoreline power provides enough power to run interior lights and a couple of outlets and is useful for mobile workspaces that do not have very high power demands. For applications with a higher power supply requirement other options include generators and Vanner dynamic inverters.
Skirt: a downward extension of the vehicle body walls that extends below the frame of the body and hides the sub-frame and vehicle chassis. Skirts are standard features on cutoff vans, and are often recommended when through-frame compartments or drop-step man doors are included in a unit.
Skirting Trim: a 1” L-shaped aluminum extrusion mounted on the bottom of the wall panels to give a finished appearance to the wall bottom as well as to provide protection from the sharp edge of the panels.
Skylight: an opening in the roof of a unit that allows natural light into the vehicle body. The opening is covered with a piece of Lexan and is sealed with urethane caulking to prevent moisture from penetrating the unit.
Slides: used for sliding compartment drawers and pull-out generator trays. Available in a wide variety of sizes, the most common of which are listed below (Note: capacities are quoted for stationary applications):
- 12” Light: 100 #/pair; 7400 series.
- 12”Medium: 150 #/pair; 7500 series.
- 12” Heavy Duty Generator: 300 #/pair; 7600 series.
- 24” Toolbox: 500 #/pair; 7700 series.

Snap Lock Panel System: Trivan’s patented building system is a combined frame-and-membrane type of construction based on interlocking extruded aluminum modular panels. These extrusions can be bent in a radius die to provide rounded corners while eliminating the main frame common to frame-and-skin construction techniques. The Snap Lock system is versatile and durable; the 1” integral ribs at 12” on center ensure rigid planar panels that allow for multiple openings in the structure without additional reinforcing.
Spring Bolt Latch: a multi-purpose restraining device; useful for holding the non-latching segment of split compartment doors closed from the inside or keeping ramp gates in place when closed. Round bolt 1/2” in diameter. Their design makes them nearly indestructible. Steel base 3/16” thick. The bolt remains in retracted position by pivoting the handle 90° in either direction (B29).
Strip Reefer Curtain: overlapping 6” wide clear plastic strips hanging inside door openings in a reefer unit to keep cold air in the unit when the door is open.
Steps: manufactured by Trivan and available in a variety of sizes, shapes and materials; steps provide easy step-up access to elevated openings. Common options include fold-out steps that are stored inside the vehicle; slide-out steps that are stowed below the door opening; and fixed interior drop-steps which are generally used with man doors and are built right into the frame of the vehicle body. For applications where a full-size step may not be practical, Trivan also offers the option of small folding steps that fold up against the side of a unit (H25).
Strobe Light: a light that, with a power supply, stores energy and releases it in a brief high-intensity flash at spaced intervals.
Styrofoam: see Insulation.
Sub-frame: the steel framework of the vehicle body located beneath the flooring. The sub-frame includes the cross members and the long sills.
